Mental Abacus Young SCholars  (MAYS )

The first letter from lead founder
Stephanie Chen

Dear noble Fellows and Colleges,

An International Headquarter of Mental Abacus Young Scholar (MAYS) Association, was initiated by myself, Stephanie Chen, currently 9th grade at Basis Independent Silicon Valley, in Fremont, California in May 2016.
The first local chapter, Basis Independent Fremont (MAYS BIF), was established and the after school enrichment program was launched successfully with the support from Ms. Huey-Chiang Huang (President of Powermath) and Ms. Jenny Lin (President of CAAA) and also Dr. Leyba (Principle of Basis Independent Fremont) & Mr. Walker (Principle of Basis Independent Silicon Valley) in September 2016.

Inspired by California State Assembly Member, Mr. Kansen Chu, I am hoping to take a further step to expand the MAYS Association. My plan is to recruit more capable mental abacus young upper schoolers to join the MAYS Association and become certified Mental Abacus Young Scholars, establishing local chapters across the bay area and also globally, with the plan to provide more positive impacts to the society.  I wish that we could come together and form an association that can have a bigger impact, importance, and influence in the world.

Each applicant to become one of the Mental Abacus Young Scholars need to be certified at minimum, Advanced Level 2 in Abacus or in Mental Arithmetic. They also are required to fill out the application form, provide one 250 words biography essay, one 250 words MAYS development plan and one optional recommendation letter by his/her Mental Abacus teacher by January 31, 2017.  MAYS association will announce the final Young Scholars by March 15, 2017.  The selected Young Scholars must comply with the code of conduct of MAYS Association and also fulfill the one year term responsibility.  In the end of the term, the MAYS Young Scholars will receive a certificate to appreciate their contribution from MAYS, CAAA, and California State Assembly Member.  Besides this, MAYS Association will grant six scholarships to high achievers among all MAYS Young Scholars.

If you have the same passion and vision, I humbly invite you to devote your talents and time to join MAYS association, so together we can promote Mental Abacus programs to improve brain development and GRIT enhancement of club students. And also, to enable MAYS students to achieve mathematical and academic performance across race, culture, class and region.

Wish you and your family a happy Christmas and peaceful New Year.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

All the best,

Stephanie Chen
